Let us first discuss what a medium is. They are people who have a gift of being able to contact and communicate with those who are dead. Their objective is to help the bereaved members come to terms with what they have lost, by attempting to communicate with the spirits. Mediums have the ability to channel energies from the spirit world and communicate with them. They work in different ways.
A physical medium is as described above, a person who demonstrates at séances, and those present can see and hear whatever is happening. During such sessions, the spirits may communicate in a variety of ways, such as by raps, or by audible voices. Sometimes, the spirits materialize in their original forms.
Mental mediums are also known as Clairvoyants, and they have the ability to see beyond the normal range of natural vision. They have the ability to see and describe to you the images of people, places, or things in their minds, during a reading or when giving a message.
Just as clairvoyants are mediums who ‘see’ the spirits, clairaudience is the ability of mediums to ‘hear’ the spirits. The medium, in this case, hears the spirits. It could be from their own spirit guides or from the spirits of the departed ones, who are trying to forward a message. Most mediums ‘hear’ the voice in their heads, and not on the physical level. Non-believers could argue that the medium could be making it all up, but this can be confirmed by offering specifics of particular incidences unknown to the medium.
The third kind of mental medium has the ability to sense the presence and the thoughts of the spirits. This ability is known as Clairsentience.
How Do Mediums Work
Mediums work by contacting the spirits, who are all around us. They are so near, yet out of reach of most of us. The world of spirits is thought to be just on a different vibrational plane from our own. Mediums have the ability to tune in to this different vibration, and so can the world of spirits, to ease communication between the two.
The contact with the spirits is generated by the mediums through the thought processes. During a session with a client, the medium transmits the thought about his client to the spirit world. If a spirit on the other side recognizes the thought, or the name of the client, it may decide to make contact, through the medium. The choice of making a contact lies with the spirit, and it cannot be forced to make contact.
Once the link is made, and the spirit or any other communicator decides to communicate, it first tries to prove its identity. The spirit communicates its thoughts about itself to the medium, who in turn will interpret these thoughts and describe the spirit back to the client. The success of the communication depends on the experience of the medium, and his ability to maintain that contact.
The mediums have this ability to interpret the information from the other world as he has learned to attune himself to the world of spirits. With some mediums, it is an inborn ability, whereas others have to train themselves to accept this information. One of the ways to make their minds receptive to the information coming from the world of spirit is through meditation. Anyone can learn to meditate and calm their minds, but not all who succeed in meditation can become mediums.
The purpose of the mediums is twofold: to console and advise those who have lost their dear ones by contacting their spirits on the other side; and to develop their spirituality.
