Nostradamus
Famous Psychics - Famous Psychics

Nostradamus, born in Saint Rémy de Provence on December 14, 1503, is the most famous and widely read prophet, famous for his prophesies. Born as Michel de Nostredame into a Jewish family, which soon converted to Catholicism by the time he was 9 years old, he Latinized his name to Nostradamus. Though trained to be a skilled physician, he became very popular during his lifetime, and later, as a seer who prophesized about the future.

He grew up learning a lot of languages, including Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, and was adept in mathematics, astrology and astronomy, along with clairvoyance. He attended the University at Avignon to study Liberal Arts. In 1534 he married and had two children, but lost his wife and children to plague.

For the next six years he traveled through France and Italy, and eventually, in 1554, he settled down at Salon, France. He married for the second time, and with his wife – Anne Ponsart Gemelle – he raised six children – three boys and girls apiece. It was during this time that he started prophesizing, and at the age of 52, in 1555, he wrote his first collection of Prophesies.

The Prophesies

Before he wrote his prophesies for which he is renowned even today, Nostradamus wrote the Almanacs, which were published annually from 1550 onwards till the day he died. Published twice or thrice a year, these were generalized, as well as detailed predictions.

His first installment of his famous Prophesies was published in 1555, with the second installment in 1557, and the third and final publication in 1558. The Prophesies are known to contain predictions from his era to the end of world. Supposed to contain a total of 1000 quatrains, only 942 of them have survived. A set of 100 quatrains was known as a Century, and there were a total of 10 centuries, to begin with.

A quatrain is just a verse of 4 lines. Quatrains by Nostradamus were both rhymed and unrhymed, and were mainly written in French, along with some Italian, Greek, and Latin. He is said to have deliberately used symbolisms and metaphors, changing proper names by swapping or adding/removing letter, to avoid being called a magician, and face persecution. The quatrains have not been arranged in a chronological manner.

According to Nostradamus, he could predict by combining astrological signs with divine inspiration. He said that an angelic spirit helped him understand the relationship between the movement of the heavenly bodies and the events on Earth. He added that on meditating late at night, he could see and understand the events of the near and distant future.

Followers of Nostradamus are sure of the accuracies of his predictions. According to them the quatrains have predicted correctly:

• The French Revolution
• The reign of Napoleon Bonaparte
• The rise of Hitler
• The World Wars, I and II
• The assassination of John F. Kennedy
• The nuclear destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
• The moon landing
• The destruction of the World Trade Center towers
• The death of Diana – Princess of Wales
• The Challenger disaster

. . .  among many others.

His final prediction was the prediction of his death, which came true.
