The world of magick is all around us. Many Paths of spirit incorporate Magick as part of their communion with divinity. The practice of magick should not be taken lightly or be used without complete understanding of the power and energy you will be using and how to control and direct this energy wisely. There are many ways to practice this ancient art, but there are2 generally accepted laws:
The 3 fold law is in effect for every thing you do this means that whatever you do comes back to you times 3 (the good as well as bad ) so use caution because it is REAL!!
An Harm Ye None do What Ye will! Please remember that magick is never to be used to harm ANYONE!
This is Very Important Please do not take lightly!
As I am trying to put this all together, I hope to bring about an understanding that Witchcraft, like any religion, has undergone it's changes throughout the centuries. It is my personal feeling, however, that the religion of Witchcraft has undergone far fewer changes than any other in history. As the song sung by Neil Diamond starts: " Where it began, I can't begin to knowin..." Witchcraft, sorcery, magic, whatever can only begin to find its roots when we go back as far as Mesopotamia. With their dieties for all types of disasters, such as Utug - the Dweller of the Desert waiting to take you away if you wandered to far, and Telal - the Bull Demon, Alal - the destroyer, Namtar - Pestilence, Idpa - fever, and Maskim - the snaresetter; the days of superstitution were well underway. It was believed that the pharaohs, kings, etc. all imbued some power of the gods, and even the slightest movement they made would cause an action to occur.
We are not evil. We don't harm or seduce people. We are not dangerous. We are ordinary people like you. We have families, jobs, hopes, and dreams. We are not a cult. This religion is not a joke. We are not what you think we are from looking at T.V. We are real. We laugh, we cry. We are serious. We have a sense of humor. You don't have to be afraid of us. We don't want to convert you. And please don't try to convert us. Just give us the same right we give you--to live in peace. We are much more similar to you than you think." Margot Adler
Paranormal magic is referred to as Magick, to differentiate it from stage magic performed by the sleight of hand exponents. Talking of spells and magick brings out all the mysterious and secretive images of occult practices. Magick goes back across millenniums, predating all known religions, such as Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and all recorded history. Magick was the system of belief in all the ancient cultures of the world. Along with magick, there were spells, which were incantations that were believed to have powers of magick.
A Goddess is a female divine being, and had been worshipped in various cultures around the world for thousands of years. The idea of female divine form probably came from the fact that the female was the creator of life, and the omnipresent creator was seen as a female – the Mother of all life. Statues and artifacts have been excavated that verify worship of female deities, and cave paintings, etc, have been found that date back to more than 35,000 BC. The full figured form of the Goddess symbolized prosperity, and security from hunger.
The Council of American Witches finds it necessary to define modern Witchcraft in terms of the American experience and needs. We are not bound by traditions from other times and other cultures, and owe no allegiance to any person or power greater than the Divinity manifest through our own being. As American Witches we welcome and respect all Life Affirming teachings and traditions and seek to learn from all and to share our learning within our Council. It is in this spirit of welcome and cooperation that we adopt these few principles of Wiccan belief. In seeking to be inclusive, we do not wish to open ourselves to the destruction of our group by those on self-serving power trips, or to philosophies and practices contradictory to those principles. In seeking to exclude those whose ways are contradictory to ours, we do not want to deny participation with us to any who are sincerely interested in our knowledge and beliefs, regardless of race, color, sex, age, national or cultural origins or sexual preference.
The witches year is divided into 13 full moon esbats and 8 celebrations a year called sabbats that create the wheel of the year. These days are sacred days to celebrate the turning of the wheel and the change of the seasons. A calendar of eight festivals falling on the solstices, the equinoxes and four other intermediate dates is observed by many branches of neopaganism. The solstices and equinoxes are widely known as Quarter days; the four dates falling between them are the Cross-quarter days or "fire festivals".
In Wicca the eight festivals are called Sabbats and are distinct from Esbats, which are Wiccan festivals falling at full or new moon. Some modern Druids follow a similar eightfold wheel, but do not refer to the individual festivals as Sabbats. While retaining the Irish names for the fire festivals, they use names derived from the writings of Iolo Morganwg for the solstices and equinoxes. Keltrian druidry uses the same festival names as are common in North American Wicca.

Listen to the words of the Great Mother, she who of old has been called Artemis, Astarte, Dione, Melusine, Cerridwen, Diana and by many other names:
"Whenever you have need of anything, once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full, then shall ye assemble in some secret place to adore the spirit of Me, who am Queen of all the Wise. You shall be free from slavery, and as a sign that ye be free, you shall sing, dance, feast, make music and love, all in My praise. For Mine is the ecstasy of the spirit, but Mine also is joy on Earth. My law is love unto all beings. Mine is the secret door that opens upon the land of youth, and Mine is the cup of the wine of life, that is the Cauldron of Cerridwen, that is the Holy Grail of Immortality.
